Greg Myers: 'Crackers and Cheese'
Going arcades on a Saturday
Gotta beat the penny pushers
Wishing for my winning way
Rover on the number nine
Racing down the seafront steps
Passing all the pram pushers
Gulls diving for kids’ chips
Nan’s ready with the coins
Boys are out in their cars
Cruising in the Essex sunshine
Pints and cigs outside the bars
Sunburned tattoos fry on this coastline
Seafront lights illuminate the dusk
Time for dinner, back on the bus
The flats have a strange musk
On the sofa waiting for my tea
Cooking up bacon so crispy
Using her famous dipping pan
When done, she has a whisky
Sitting down to watch the box
O’Sullivan’s shot pots the black
Bookies’ favourite for the title
Higgins hasn’t got a way back
Keeping their focus is vital
Loving crackers and cheese
Playing cards till late
Plenty of butter, please
On nan’s best china plate
It’s past my bedtime
Lying on my camp bed
Ceiling has a tint of lime
Drifting off into my dreams
Roar of a match day crowd
Morning light is burning bright
Arsenal are on with Henry
But don’t forget Ian Wright
